What is a 3-Way Call?

A 3-way call allows you to bridge two separate callers into one conversation. This is perfect for quick consultations or introducing a client to another staff member.

Method 1: Using your Desk Phone

This is the most common way to handle a live transfer or consultation.

  1. Call the first person: Dial the number or extension as usual.
  2. Start the Conference: Once they answer, press the Conf (or Conference) soft key on your screen. This will automatically put the first caller on hold.
  3. Call the second person: Dial the extension or phone number for the second person.
  4. Join them together: Once the second person answers, press the Conf soft key again.
  5. You are now in a 3-way call. If you hang up, the other two parties will be disconnected.

Method 2: Using the Unite Desktop App

  1. While on an active call, click the Add Call (plus sign) icon in the call window.
  2. Type the name or extension of the person you want to add and click Call.
  3. The first caller is placed on hold.
  4. Once the second person answers, click the Merge button to bring everyone into the same conversation.

Method 3: Using the Unite Mobile App

  1. During an active call, tap the Add Call button on your screen.
  2. Select a contact or dial a number.
  3. The first caller will be held.
  4. Once the second person answers, tap Merge Calls.

Important Notes:

  • Conf vs. Transfer: If you want to leave the conversation and let the other two people keep talking, you should use the Transfer button instead.
  • If the second person doesn't answer: If you get their voicemail, simply hang up that line or press the Split/Swap key to return to your original caller.
  • Maximum Callers: This method is for 3 people total (you + 2 others). For larger meetings, please use your Unite Meeting (Online Meeting) link instead.
