What is Business SMS?
Business SMS allows you to send and receive text messages using your work extension's phone number. This is handled through the Intermedia Unite app on your computer or mobile device, rather than your phone's native texting app.
Method 1: Using the Unite Desktop App
- Open the Unite Desktop App.
- Click on the Chat icon (the speech bubble) in the left-hand navigation bar.
- Click the Plus (+) icon at the top of the chat list and select New SMS.
- Type the 10-digit mobile number or search for a contact's name.
- Type your message in the bottom box and press Enter to send.
Method 2: Using the Unite Mobile App
- Open the Unite App on your smartphone.
- Tap the Chat tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Compose icon (usually a pencil/paper or a plus sign).
- Select New SMS.
- Enter the recipient's phone number or select them from your contacts.
- Type your message and tap the Send arrow.
Important Things to Know
- One Number, All Messages: Whether you send a text from your computer or your cell phone, the recipient will see the same work phone number.
- Notifications: You will receive a notification on both your computer and your phone when a client replies.
- Media & Photos: You can send and receive images (MMS) just like a regular text message by clicking the Paperclip or Plus icon in the message box.
- Privacy: Since this uses the Unite app, your personal cell phone number remains completely hidden from the recipient.
Pro-Tip: Personal vs. Work Texting
Be sure to use the Unite App for all professional communication. If you use your phone's default "Messages" app (the green or blue bubble icon), you will be revealing your personal cell number!
